The wait is over. Today marks the launch of the first of three books about Lizzie and what brought her to choose this young woman to inherit everything she had and adventures beyond the universe. This fourth book in The Dimensional Alliance series is the continuation of Jenny’s journey with a twist. In a small break between adventures, Jenny brings out the journals of her great aunt Lizzie to maybe experience, if only vicariously, the training she missed out on during her fast paced promotion to Gatekeeper.
By the time our story starts, Lizzie and her family had survived two world wars and “The Great Depression”. Lizzie was a college student herself with a problem. She was hungry beyond any hunger for food or drink, beyond the hunger for power or riches. She was hungry for knowledge. She was driven by the need to know how everything works…how the pieces of the universe fitted together and her classes in the university just weren’t cutting it. She is ahead of all of the students in her classes and many of the teachers. The library is her haven and one of the few places she feels comfortable.
In the setting of the 1950’s in Los Angeles, Lizzie lives in a world where all devices that communicate in her world are held in place by a wire. A simple computer takes up an entire building and it’s only function is to calculate numbers which have to be printed out onto paper. Television screens are as small as most tablets are today and all television and most movies are filmed in black and white. The closest thing to wireless communication is short wave radio. Rock and roll is new and parents are bewailing the indecency of girls wearing pants.
This is Lizzie’s world. And then something amazing happens…
