LDSPMA Member Spotlight: Bonnie K. T. Dillabough

I was so excited to see this posted on the Latter Day Saints Publishers and Media Association website. I will be attending their conference in October virtually and hope to attend in person in 2022.

As I continue in my author journey, I am constantly amazed at the many steps necessary for an independently published author to get the “word out” about the books they write. Once the you finally type “The End” after tens of thousands of words, you are just getting started.

With the millions of published works out there and all of the potential readers you need to reach, the task to expose your books to those who most would like to read them seems sometimes insurmountable. However, the key is persistence and education.

After publishing my first book I realized I knew nearly nothing about the publishing industry. Even though I had been making my living as an online marketer for over 20 years, I found that marketing in the publishing world was a completely different arena.

It seemed to me to be a puzzle to be solved where I didn’t have all the pieces. There are so many moving and constantly changing parts and no single authoritative source to find what you need.

That’s where associating with other authors on the same journey became a necessary key to getting where I wanted to go. The consistent and enthusiastic support of others on the same quest became a life preserver when I sometimes felt like I was drowning in a sea of information which was often contradictory and confusing.

So, I continue my journey, feeling more and more confident with companions I can count on to keep me on a lighted path.

If you are thinking, “I’d like to write a book someday,” I would tell you, forget about someday. Today is the day to begin. In my next post I will tell you about a great starting place for your journey.
